John Tooby

John Tooby is Distinguished Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where with his collaborator and spouse, psychologist Leda Cosmides, he co-​founded and co-​directs the Center for Evolutionary Psychology. With Jerome Barkow, Tooby and Cosmides edited The Adapted Mind: Evolutionary Psychology and the Generation of Culture (1992), the foundational text of the field of evolutionary psychology. Tooby received his PhD in biological anthropology from Harvard in 1989.
