Biography

Maria Giménez Cavallo was born in New York in 1992 to an Italian-​American mother and Spanish father. She got her BA from Columbia University (class of 2010) with honors in Italian, Film, and French Studies.

Maria then moved to Paris to work with Abdellatif Kechiche as artistic collaborator, assistant director, casting director, and editor for Mektoub, My Love: Canto Uno (Mostra di Venezia 2017).

She then moved to Rome to collaborate with Pietro Marcello, Alice Rohrwacher, and Francesco Munzi on set and in the editing room, for a documentary shot on 16mm throughout Italy: Futura (Cannes Quinzaine 2021).

She has since made a few short films which depict rural traditions, The Little Shepherdess (Cannes Quinzaine shortlist 2020), Pastourelle, and The Tale of the Great Oak.
